Tissaphernes
royal commander in western Anatolia, d. 395 BCE
A Persian royal commander whose changing western commissions under Darius II and Artaxerxes II encompassed provincial government, diplomacy and war. Greek narratives made his seizure of the Ten Thousand's commanders the centre of a lasting reputation for treachery.
